Data-Driven Analysis of Sporting Event Legal Issues
This white paper examines some key legal issues regarding both national and international sporting competitions, with a particular focus on their implications within Texas as the city prepares to host several high-profile soccer games during the 2026 World Cup.
Methodology
We’ve drawn together and synthesized data from relevant and authoritative sources such as the U.S. Department of Justice, FIFA, National Centers for Environmental Information, Allianz, The World Affairs Council, Arizona State University, and ESPN, to create a broad, multifaceted analysis of many of the legal issues surrounding major sporting events. By using key substantive statistics and reports, we’ve been able to closely examine aspects such as venue/premises liability, spectator injury litigation, and spectator and pedestrian safety in and around venues.
Objective
The white paper provides actionable insights for legal professionals, event organizers, and attendees by outlining the most pressing risks, clarifying civic and legal responsibilities, and presenting strategies designed to prevent and effectively respond to major event complications.
